After opening our restaurant’s doors in February of this year, our team here at Tayybeh was so excited to host our very own in-house Ramadan-long seatings for our community here in Kitsilano, Vancouver.
From March 11th until April 9th, we served a special Iftar menu alongside our regular servings, making it easy and affordable for families, loved ones and newcomers to gather and celebrate together, or amongst new friends.
Wait, what is an Iftar?
During the month of Ramadan, there is a traditional fasting that takes place by members of the Muslim community from sunrise to sunset. Our Iftar is when we are allowed to break our fast, something we enjoy doing together with family or friends, typically making large gatherings out of it.
Our First In-Restaurant Iftar
For starters, we offered our always popular Kibbeh, which is a mixed beef and bulgur wheat shell filled with traditional Middle Eastern Spices, crushed nuts and ground beef. Diners also loved our Cheese Sambousak, which are vegetarian half-moon pockets cooked to a golden crisp and filled with a combination of cheese and parsley.
Additional starters included Lentil Soup, Garden Salad, Pita Bread and Mutabbal Dip. This dip is a blend of smoked eggplant, olive oil and tahini. (Try it with your Kibbeh or Homestyle Pita Chips!)
For the main course, guests had a choice between Meatballs with Rice or Chicken Kabsa, which is a flavourful seasoned chicken served on a bed of Kabsa rice. The main course also included Atayef, which are Middle Eastern pancakes that could come filled with walnuts or sweet cheese. They’re also drizzled with honey then topped with pistachio and cinnamon.
Of course, no Iftar would be complete without Qamar Al-deen Juice, a refreshing, tangy apricot juice, just bursting with nostalgic Middle Eastern flavour.
We were also pleased to offer Iftar catering orderable by phone or on our website. These efforts were accompanied by the addition of three special desserts; Ashta Katayef, Walnut Katayef and Knafeh.
What is Knafeh? Topped with honey and nuts after being baked to a golden crisp, Knafeh is a shredded angel hair pastry filled with tasty clotted cream.
Here’s What Our Wonderful Guests Said (Via Google Reviews)
“Such a warm and cheerful place! I had a wonderful time at Iftar as I enjoyed a delicious lentil soup and a beef kebab wrap. The dips are outstanding and pair so well with their pita chips. The staff was so friendly and helped customize my order. I’ll definitely be back very soon.”
“The best new addition to Kitsilano! Tried their Iftar menu: several courses for only $35 and everything was super delicious! Also great for lunch (and a great place to work), their Shawarma is the best in town, Hummus is to die for and their coffee is incredible! A must try!”
“Delicious! Had the set meal for Ramadan and everything was wonderful. Particularly the Samboosak, Atayef and Chicken Kabsa.”
