Syrian Bread-Inspired Dishes in Vancouver

In Syrian cuisine, bread is more than just a side, it’s a staple part of the experience.

Whether a wrap, a flatbread or something crispy and filled with melty, belly-warming cheese, bread shows up in all kinds of delicious ways and not just as some kind of filler.

At Tayybeh, we love to highlight traditional Syrian bread across our menus as a core necessity.

If you have tried our Manakeesh or classic Shawarma Wraps, you already know how important good bread is to every bite.

Manakeesh - Syria’s Signature Flatbread

Manakeesh is one of the most recognizable forms of Syrian bread. It is a soft, round flatbread topped with savoury ingredients before baking.

Think of it like the Syrian cousin of pizza, but lighter and deeply aromatic.

Our menu features two standout Manakeesh options.

The Zaatar Manakeesh is topped with a blend of zaatar spices including thyme, sesame seeds, and sumac. It is simple, bold, and deeply traditional.

We also serve Mhammara Manaeesh, a version topped with roasted red pepper spread. Both are vegan, and the latter is also nut-free.

Pita Wraps - The Crave-Worthy Classic

Pita is another staple in Syrian cooking and we use it to make wrapped versions of some of our most popular dishes - perfect for lunch/dinner table enjoyment or munching on the go.

If you are into classic shawarma, our Beef and Chicken Shawarma Wraps are always a hit and are both halal and nut-free.

For something a little different, try the Sujuk Wrap, filled with spiced ground beef and garlic sauce, or the Kafta Wrap, made with grilled beef and tahini. (Halal & nut-free)

Vegetarian diners will enjoy our cool and refreshing Labneh Wrap, made with zaatar, cucumber, and tomato.

Vegan options include our Falafel Wrap with crispy chickpea patties and tahini, our Vegan Sujuk Wrap with spiced plant-based meat, lettuce and pomegranate molasses, plus our Crispy Cauliflower Wrap with cabbage, tomato, pickles and pomegranate molasses.

More Bread-Based Favourites

In addition to Manakeesh and Pita, our menu includes a few more bread-forward dishes you will want to try:

Our Cheese Rolls are golden and crisp on the outside, filled with cheese and served with a side of dip. You can also try them filled with chicken and sumac.

The always popular Cheese Samboosak are similar, but shaped like small half-moons and filled with cheese and parsley. We also offer Beef Samboosak

Don’t Forget Dessert

While not bread in the full-on roll, wrap or flat sense, Knafeh deserves a mention. This dessert features shredded angel hair pastry filled with cheese, baked until crispy and golden, then topped with nuts and honey.

Hungry?

Whether you are dining in, ordering takeout, or planning a catered event, Tayybeh brings the art of Syrian bread to the table with every meal.
