Meet Mariam, Tayybeh’s Incredible Operations Manager

Meet Mariam, Tayybeh’s Incredible Operations Manager

At Tayybeh, we’re so privileged and honoured to have such a wonderful team not only at the forefront of our catering operations and restaurant but also behind the scenes. One of our many fantastic staff members behind the curtain is Mariam, our hard-working Operations Manager who we’re thrilled to write about for our customers and other readers.

About Mariam

Mariam came to Vancouver from Latakia, Syria in October 2010, and immediately felt right at home

“Society here is open and accommodating of differences so I did not feel it was difficult to integrate. When I first came here, I spent some time trying to improve my English language skills and finish my studies. Tayybeh offered me one of my first work experiences. It was a launching pad for my professional career.”

In 2022, we were thrilled to promote Mariam to the role of Production Supervisor and, at the time of writing, she is now our Operations Manager.

A Day in the Life of Tayybeh Operations Management

Each work day, Mariam oversees the operations of both our restaurant side and our catering side, supporting business development while managing our wonderful all-women staff.

“I start my day very early with my beloved coffee and get ready for a productive day of work. I balance between day to day operations, problem solving, and working with the management team on planning for the future.”

On Getting to Work Primarily with Others from Syria

“One of the most wonderful things about Tayybeh is that women are the driving force and the corner store of our company, as well as [Tayybeh] supporting newcomer women to find their footing in this new society. Working with Syrian women chefs makes me incredibly proud of them and their achievements as well as what Tayybeh has offered the team.”

On Challenges of the Job

“Working in today's economy has helped me become very attentive to details, able to multitask and has also made me hone my ability to deal with daily challenges. I am actually very proud of all the challenges I have dealt with as they are the reason I am becoming more developed in my career and professional abilities.”

On Tayybeh & Syrian Cuisine as a Whole

“My favourite Tayybeh dish is Rice Pudding, my grandmother would always make it for me.

So far Syrian cuisine is not as well known internationally as it should be. Tayybeh is leading the way in making our incredible cuisine and delicious dishes internationally famous. It is truly my honour to be part of the team that is helping our cuisine become a Vancouver and international sensation!”
